2nd Business Delegation to Eastern Europe

Our recent delegation to Belarus was more than just a business mission — it was a powerful reminder of how industry, culture, and human connection intertwine to create lasting partnerships. Over the course of a week, Hong Kong market leaders engaged with Belarusian institutions, enterprises, and cultural landmarks, discovering not only opportunities for cooperation but also the common ground that unites us as hubs of trade in our respective regions.

Industrial Insights and Cooperation

From the outset, the delegation was welcomed by Belarus’ leading agencies and organizations. Meetings with the National Agency of Investment and Privatization and the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry set the tone for constructive dialogue. These sessions were not just formalities — they were genuine exchanges of ideas, culminating in signed cooperation agreements that laid the foundation for future collaboration.

Visits to the Minsk City Technopark and the Great Stone Industrial Park showcased Belarus’ industrial ambitions and technological innovation. Touring production facilities, exhibition halls, and engaging in B2B panels revealed a country eager to expand its role in global trade. For Hong Kong leaders, the parallels were striking: both regions thrive as gateways, connecting surrounding markets and facilitating international commerce.

The delegation also explored manufacturing excellence at the Minsk Watch Plant and the BelAZ plant, where the sheer scale of engineering — from precision timepieces to colossal mining trucks — left a lasting impression. These encounters highlighted Belarus’ diverse industrial strengths and opened doors for Hong Kong companies to explore synergies in technology, supply chains, and trade exhibitions.

Expanding Beyond Industry

While industry was the central theme, the mission extended into services and hospitality. Negotiations with Minotel OJSC demonstrated Belarus’ growing interest in tourism and hospitality partnerships, reinforcing the idea that industrial cooperation naturally spills into other sectors. The final stop at Kommunarka OJSC, a renowned confectionery producer, added a sweet note to the journey — a symbolic reminder that partnerships can be both practical and delightful.

Cultural Connections

Equally important were the cultural experiences woven into the schedule. Excursions to the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, Mir Castle, and Nesvizh Castle offered profound insights into Belarus’ heritage. These visits underscored the resilience and creativity of the Belarusian people, while also reminding us that culture is a vital bridge in international relations.

Sharing Belarusian cuisine during lunches and dinners further deepened the sense of connection. Food, history, and architecture became touchpoints for understanding that, despite geographical distance, our cultures are not so different.

What stood out most throughout the delegation was the sense of commonality. Hong Kong and Belarus may differ in scale and geography, but both see themselves as hubs of trade, innovation, and cultural exchange. The meetings were effective, the agreements meaningful, and the experiences eye‑opening.

By engaging with Belarusian leaders, enterprises, and communities, Hong Kong market leaders discovered a partner that values collaboration as much as we do.
